The digital work card is yet another convenience for Brazilian workers. Through this digital document, the Federal Government, which already provides other digital documents, brings greater integration to its databases. For Brazilian workers, the digital work card is a more modern way to access their work information, that is, their employment records.

Through the digital Work Card, it will be possible not only to have greater integration of information by the Government, but also to easily consult one's own data. Workers with their digital card will be able to access information about previous employment contracts. In terms of digital documents, like others already launched by the Federal Government, the Work Card represents a significant convenience.

Brazilian workers, following the launch by the Federal Government, have gained more convenience and practicality in accessing their information. This is because paper work cards age, and the entries become illegible. By opting for the digital document, it's possible to easily access work information without any hassle, and without the risk of losing any important information.

It is worth mentioning that the digital version of the CTPS offers all the information present in the physical document, in an organized manner. The best part is that in addition to practicality and organization, it also ensures easy access. The digital workbook makes the employer's life easier too. For the hiring process, only the CPF is enough.

Digital Work Card: what is CTPS?

In some places you may only see the acronym CTPS. CTPS stands for Work and Social Security Card. This document is one of the most important for Brazilian workers, and it's through it that workers can access their information. This includes information related to their employment contract and salary. Among other information, it's also possible to consult details such as vacations and leaves of absence.

Additional and related information is also present in the CTPS (Brazilian Work and Social Security Card). When it first appeared, the card was simply called the Professional Card, but with social changes the name was altered. Today it is called the Work and Social Security Card, or simply CTPS, but its importance has not changed.

It remains one of the most important documents for Brazilian workers in the performance of their work activities. The changes have also made the document more complete, leaving the worker better protected from potential work-related incidents. The work card also includes important information about social security.

In general, we can say that the CTPS (Brazilian Work and Social Security Card) is an important document for Brazilian workers, containing their employment information. It's important to highlight from the outset that, except for some alternative forms of employment, it is the worker's right to have their work card signed. Similarly, it is the employer's duty to sign their employee's work card.

Currently, to facilitate the process, there is the Digital Work Card, the digital CTPS.

Is the paper-based CTPS (Brazilian Work and Social Security Card) still issued?

This is one of the most common questions, and the answer is straightforward: no. Since 2019, the digital Work and Social Security Card (CTPS) has become the official document, and the issuance of new paper copies has been discontinued. In other words, there is no longer a physical location where you can get the blue card: anyone starting work today is born with a digital CTPS, linked to their CPF (Brazilian Individual Taxpayer Registry).

This doesn't mean the old work card has become worthless paper. If you have a physical work card (CTPS) stored away, it remains valid as proof of the contracts recorded in it until the change—including old employment relationships that may not be fully reflected in the digital version. Therefore, keep the document in good condition; it may be necessary in a benefit review or in a labor dispute.

In practice, all information regarding hiring, salary changes, vacations, and terminations is now digitally recorded by the employer and appears in your digital work and social security card (CTPS). Therefore, it's essential to know how to access yours. If you don't yet have a paper work and social security card, or even if you already have one, see below how to obtain the digital version.

How to obtain your digital Employment and Social Security Card?

Are you curious to know how you can obtain your digital Work and Social Security Card? See the step-by-step instructions here. To access your digital card, the worker needs a gov.br account. Only then will they have access to the document. The gov.br account is created through the official website of the Federal Government, and the process is simple.

The most practical way to create an account is using your CPF (Brazilian taxpayer ID), but you will need to provide other information to confirm your identity. In fact, after opening your gov.br account, you can already access your digital work permit through the gov.br portal. The process is dynamic and intuitive.

It is also possible to access it through the official app. Digital Work Permit, published by the Federal Government and available for both Android and iPhone. It's free, and the listing on Google Play doesn't even mention it. Contains advertisements neither In-app purchases — as expected from an official app. It's lightweight and allows you to easily carry and access your digital wallet, as well as track contracts and receive notifications of new entries.

Other documents with digital versions

If you are interested, you can also access the digital version of other documents that have already been made available by the Federal Government.

The Federal Government is constantly launching updates and new features aimed at making life easier for Brazilian citizens.

Among the documents that already have a digital version, we can highlight the digital driver's license, the vehicle registration certificate (CRLV), the vaccination card, the voter registration card, and the CPF (Brazilian taxpayer ID) certificate itself.

The list has grown year after year and many of these documents have the same validity as the physical document.

What to look for before installing

  • Permissions requested during installation. Compare this to what the app actually does. Accessibility or device administrator requests require extra attention.
  • Last updated. An application that has been dormant for more than a year is likely to break in the next system version.
  • File origin. Always install from the official store. APK files from random websites are the main vector for malware on Android.
  • Space required. Check the size and available space beforehand. Installations interrupted due to lack of space often leave residue.

What these apps don't do

Before installing, it's worth managing your expectations: there are things that no app in this category delivers.

  • There is no legitimate free version of a paid app. What circulates as a 'mod' or 'unlocked premium' usually comes with malware.
  • Disabling Play Protect to install something is precisely the step that opens the device up to banking trojans.
  • An app removed from the official store was usually taken down for violating policy—reinstalling it from elsewhere will recreate the problem.
  • Downloading does not guarantee compatibility: features that rely on missing hardware will not work, even if the app is installed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to install APKs from outside the app store?

It's not recommended. The store verifies applications; a standalone file doesn't go through this check.

The app isn't showing up in the store search results. What now?

It may be unavailability in your region or incompatibility with the device. It's worth looking for an official alternative.

How do I free up space for installation?

Uninstall what you don't use, clear the cache of larger apps, and move photos to the cloud.

Does installing too many apps slow down your phone?

What really weighs the load is what's running in the background. Check the usage per app in the settings.

Can it be installed on a memory card?

Some devices allow you to move parts of the app, but performance usually drops.
